Welcome to the Precalculus Algebra Online Course!

This course only contains the Algebra part of a Precalculus course. It does not contain the Trigonometry part of a Precalculus course.

I am delighted that you have enrolled in my section, and I hope that you have a great academic term!
Instruction in this course does not involve classroom lectures. You will be online, learning the course’s contents through computer generated lessons. The computerized learning modules use text, graphics, animation, and video. This interactive multimedia approach has the potential to accommodate your individual learning style. You will interact with the computer to complete all the assigned objectives. All instructional materials used throughout the course, as well as the scheduled activities, support and promote the achievement of the stated learning outcomes and unit learning objectives. I will act as facilitator to help you and guide you in your learning experience.

This course will teach you the Precalculus Algebra needed for Physics and Calculus.

Warning: This course is challenging and time consuming. This online course is convenient but NOT easier than a regular classroom course. This method of delivery is NOT intended for everyone. Only highly motivated highly discipline and highly organized students that can read the book, and have time to watch videos, and  can learn the material by themselves, with limited guidance, are successful in this course. Working with Mathematics should not be an issue for you. Do not take this course because it is the only section of the course open.

This online course uses ‘MyMathLab’, (MML) Addison Wesley’s testing tool over the Internet.  To be able to take this course, you must have a computer, you must know how to use a computer and you should be able to download and install plug-ins, if you plan to use a computer other than the ones in the Mathematics Lab at the East Campus Learning Resource Center. Since this is a Valencia East Campus Course, the computers at the Computer Labs in other campuses may not have the appropriate plug-ins installed.

MyMathLab has a limited tutorial with some videos. Basically you are teaching yourself the material of the course. Our interaction will be mostly through e-mail or by phone unless you come to my office hours.

Important:

By the "Program Integrity and Documentation of Online Course Attendance" published by the Department of Education (ED) and adopted by Valencia College, any student registered in an online course must show attendance.

The Department of Education (ED) has made it clear that simply logging into an online or hybrid course does not constitute attendance as an "academically-related activity."

The Department of Education requires online students to show attendance by submitting homework during the first week of classes. To comply with this Federal law, you must successfully complete assignments by the second Tuesday of the term. Successfully completing assignments means to:

(1) Complete the Student Introduction assignment, found in the "Discussions" section in BB,

(2) Complete -with 100%- the Syllabus Quiz found in the Assessments (tests) section in BB, and

(3) Complete  with a score of at least 80% the first Assignment in MML called RU-Ready for Precalculus.

Also, you must send the Campus e-mail. Your e-mail (1) must come from your Valencia e-mail, (2) have "Precalculus Online" in the subject, (3) have the Campus you are taking tests. If one of the above is missing, your e-mail will be return, and you will have not complied with this assignment.

Any student that does not comply with this Federal requirement will be dropped from the course as a No-Show.

Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions. You can email me pfernandez@valenciacollege.edu) or call me (407-582-2755). Emails will receive a faster response. Have a great academic term!

I wish you the best with all your classes!
