Thanks to the Valencia Foundation and Abe and Tess Wise of the Holocaust Education Center for the Endowed Chair in Holocaust Studies that has been awarded to me five times.  This award enabled me to travel with the Jewish Labor Committee and a group of fellow educators from across the USA to visit and study at various Holocaust sites, concentration camps, former ghettos in Poland as well as Israel's Holocaust Memorial and Study Center at Yad Vashem and the Ghetto Fighter's House.  In addition it enabled me to attend and graduate from The International School for Holocaust Studies at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem during the Summers of 2008, 2009, and 2010, as well as visit Holocaust sites in Poland, Germany, Austria, Hungary and the Czech Republic. These trips have enhanced my background and skills and will  bring more knowledge to my students in my course "Multimedia-Literature of the Holocaust". I am eternally grateful for these opportunities to grow as a Holocaust educator.

35 years as an educator: After a successful  career as a New Jersey Public School educator for 25 years, I moved on to the college level.  This new phase of my career allowed me to have an integral part in Developmental Education on the college level.  In August 19, 2003, I proudly joined the faculty of Valencia College in Orlando, Florida (repeatedly cited as one of the top community colleges in the nation), and the 2012 Winner of the Aspen Award as the number one community college in the nation.   As of July 2011 Valencia became a four year institution.

Special Tribute:

Fake ID Card for Vladka MeedI would like to take this space to recognize the passing of a great lady.  Vladka Meed, former smuggler and courrier during the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising passed away on November 21, 2012.  Vladka was instrumental in developing the training program for teachers that I took part in during the 2006-2007 years.  Almost 1000 of us have been blessed with the experience of being chosen for her teacher training program.  It was her spirit and belief in the power of resistance in all its forms that we are now charged with passing on to our students.  I join my fellow Holocaust educators across the world whose lives have been enriched by her influence and dedication to the memory of the Shoah and its victims.  I know there is a special place in heaven for this lady who fought for the dignity of her fellow human beings during the darkest time in our history as a people.  May you rest in piece Vladka!
