Online MAC 1105 - Course Material Guide

The Course Material Guide contains the specific chapters and sections you need to study for the corresponding test. The Guide indicates the required examples, practice problems, and homework you need to complete for each test.

Do not spend time on material that is not assigned! Please follow the Weekly Schedule and this Course Material Guide and you will be fine!

Note: In addition to the examples from the textbook, check the Power Point Presentations in Blackboard (per chapter /per section), as well as the "Videos" tab in Blackboard, which contains links to short math videos (per chapter/section) that can be helpful as you learn the course content.

Overview (Read this!)

· The “Getting Started” sections at the beginning of each chapter (these are numbered .0) are brief review sections that will serve as a refresher for skills that you should already know; they will help you review concepts and techniques that will facilitate your work with the content addressed in the chapter. Study of the Getting Started sections will be optional, as needed. However, there are topics within these review sections that I have assigned.

· Prior to studying the assigned examples, make sure to examine the narrative that leads to the corresponding example. For instance, preceding Example 3 on Section 1.0, notice that there is an explanation on graphing lines; preceding Example 4, there is an introduction to basic calculator functions, etc.

· Once you have finished studying each section (narrative, examples, and power points) you will complete the required online homework problems in WebAssign. Each online homework set can be redone a maximum of 5 times, and only the highest score will count.

· The practice problems and math videos are optional, but you may find them very useful.

· Although there will be no online homework assigned for the Getting Started sections (the .0 ones), make sure that you are proficient on the corresponding skills, because you will need to show mastery of these competencies on my tests as well.

· In addition to the unit tests, midterm, and final exam (all in Blackboard), the online homework problems (in WebAssign) will count towards your final grade.

Very Important: Prior to examining the assigned examples throughout all required sections of all chapters, make sure to study the narrative (lecture) that leads to the corresponding example, so that you can learn the material!

Note: The Required Examples listed per chapter will help you learn the material. The Practice Problems listed are extra problems similar to those in WebAssign; you do not need to turn them in. The Online Homework problems listed are the ones in WebAssign. Do not work on your online homework task until you have studied the corresponding lesson!
