Homework for Calculus One Mac 2311

Day 1  (01-07-2008)    Read examples 1 and 3 in section 2.1 for next class.

 

Day 2  (01-09-2008)    In section 2.1 do HW problems 2 and 5.  Read pages 66 to the top of 67.  Do HW problems 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 21, 27, 42 in section 2.2.  Read examples 1, 5, 6, and 9 in section 2.3.  Do HW problems 1, 2, 10, 11, 15, 17 in section 2.3.  You may also attempt to do problem 58 in section 2.3 for those of you who feel ambitious.

 

Day 3  (01-14-2008)    In section 2.3 do HW problems 21, 25, 29, 30.  In section 2.5 do HW problems 4, 7, 9, 17, 19, 29, 37, 41   

 

Day 4  (01-16-2008)    Read example 9 on pages 104 and 105 and do HW problem 47 in section 2.5.  Do questions 9, 10 in the True/False quiz on page 108 and be prepared to discuss them as a class next time we meet.  In section 3.1 do HW problems 1, 3, 7, 11, 15, 17, 18, 19, 47.  In the Calculus One problems packet, do problems 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, and 58 for a grade.  Also complete Handout #1 for a grade. 

 

Day 5 (01-23-2008)    In section 3.1 do HW problem 35.  Read through example 1 on page 124.  In section 3.2 do HW problems 1, 3, 4, 5, 23, 25, 33, 35, 39.  Read the portion of the section entitled "Higher Derivatives" starting at the bottom of page 129 and be prepared to discuss this topic on January 30 in class.

 

Day 6 (01-28-2008)   TEST DAY

 

Day 7 (01-30-2008)    In section 3.3 do HW problems 2, 5, 7, 9, 10, 12, 13, 14, 18, 21, 29, 37, 41, 49, 50, 57, 60, 61, 63, 67, 69, 71, 73, 83, 89.  In the Calculus One problems packet, do problems 74, 75, and 104, 106, 107 to be turned in on Monday February 4, 2008 for a grade.      

 

Day 8 (02-04-2008)    In section 3.4 do HW problems 1, 2, 3, 5, 9, 12, 21, 25, 30, 34, 35, 37.  Also complete Handout #2 for a grade to be turned in on Wednesday February 6th, 2008.

 

Day 9 (02-06-2008)     In section 3.5 do HW problems 10, 11, 19, 22, 24, 33, 41, 44, 47, 49, 53, 54, 59, 62, 63, 64, 65, 73.  In section 3.6 do HW problems 3, 7, 11, 12, 17, 21, 31.  Also complete Handout #3 for a grade to be turned in on Monday February 11th, 2008.

 

Day 10 (02-11-2008)     In section 3.7 do HW problems 1, 5, 6, 10, 14.  Also complete Handout #4 for a grade to be turned in on Wednesday February 13th, 2008.  In addition, please complete The Derivative Worksheet.  This worksheet will be due on Monday February 18th, 2008.

 

Day 11 (02-13-2008)    In section 3.8 do HW problems 1, 2, 6, 7, 11, 14, 17, 21.  In addition, please complete The Derivative Worksheet.  This worksheet will be due on Monday February 18th, 2008.

 


Day 12 (02-18-2008)    In section 3.8 do HW problems 19, 27, 29, and 39.  Also complete Handout #6 to be turned in on Wednesday February 20, 2008 for a grade.  In the Calculus One problems packet, do problems #84, and 85 which will also be due on Wednesday February 20, 2008 for a grade.  Looking ahead, complete Handout #5 for a grade to be turned in on Monday February 25th, 2008.  Handout #5 will be a good review for a similar, but simpler, problem on Monday's test.

 

Day 13 (02-20-2008)    In section 4.1 do problems 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, 10, 11, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 31, 33, 35, 37, 41, 47, 49, 53, 55, 61.  In section 4.2 do problems 2, 3, 7, 9, 12, 14, and for those that feel ambitious, problem 25.  Study for TEST 2.

 

Day 14 (02-25-2008)    TEST DAY  Do the problems from section 4.1 and 4.2 as indicated in Day 13.  Complete the handout entitled "Student Reflections on Emotional States During Learning" and bring it completed to class with you on Wednesday.  Read the directions very carefully.  Remember this is anonymous so please answer thoughtfully and truthfully. 

 

Day 15 (02-27-2008)    In section 4.3 do problems 1, 3, 5, 8, 11, 13, 15, 17, 18, 21, 24, 25, 27, 34, 39, 41.  Also complete Handout #7 to be turned in on Monday March 3, 2008 for a grade.

 

Day 16 (03-03-2008)    In section 4.4 do problems 4, 9, 11, 15, 17, 18, 19, 33, 35, 41, 45, 53.  Read the curve sketching guidelines on pages 243 through 245.  In section 4.5 do problems 18, 35.  Also complete Handout #8 to be turned in on Monday March 10, 2008 for a grade.

 

Day 17 (03-05-2008)    In section 4.7 do problems 3, 9, 11, 13, 31, 33, 34.  Also complete Handout #9 to be turned in on Monday March 10, 2008 for a grade.  Finish up Handout #8 for Monday as well.

 

Day 18 (03-10-2008)    In sections 4.9 do problems 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 15, 17, 21, 23, 28, 35, 39, 41, 44, 67.  In section 5.5 do problems 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 11, 17, 25, 28, 29.  Also complete Handout #10 to be turned in on Monday March 17, 2008 for a grade.  To do this handout correctly, you will NEED to use the closed interval method. 

 

Day 19 (03-12-2008)    In section 5.1 do problems 1, 2, 3, 11, 15, 19, 21.  Also complete Handout #11 to be turned in on Monday March 17, 2008 for a grade.  Finish up Handout #10 for Monday as well.

 

Day 20 (03-17-2008)    In section 5.2 do problems 5, 7, 9, 17, 19, 29, 33, 35, 37, 48, 49, 50.  Also complete Handout #12 to be turned in on Wednesday March 26, 2008 for a grade.

 

Day 21 (03-19-2008)    Study for TEST 3. The password to the previous TEST 3 is "mouse5309".  The sections the test will cover are found in the announcement section of the website.  In section 5.3 do problems 3, 7, 9, 11, 13, 21, 22, 23, 27, 29, 31, 35, 37, 51, 57, 65.  The problems highlighted in RED are important.       

 

Day 22 (03-24-2008)    TEST DAY  Finish up the HW in section 5.3.  Complete Handout #12 (See Day 20).

 

Day 23 (03-26-2008)    In section 5.4 do problems 3, 6, 7, 11, 14, 16, 24, 25, 33, 35, 36, 37, 38, 56, 57, 60, 61.  Enjoy your spring break from school. 

 

Day 24 (04-07-2008)    In section 6.1 do problems 3, 5, 13, 14, 16, 19, 23, 25, 27, 48, 49.

 

Day 25 (04-09-2008)    In section 6.2 do problems 2, 8, 36, 41.  Also do problems 19 through 30 odd.  You may do the even ones for extra practice if needed.  For those of you who feel ambitious may I suggest problem 63.  Also complete Handout #13 to be turned in on Wednesday April 16, 2008 for a grade.  For this handout just worry about setting up the integral.  Let the calculator give you a decimal approximation to each of the volumes using 2nd TRACE option 7.    

 

Day 26 (04-14-2008)    TEST DAY  Finish up Handout #13.

 

Day 27 (04-16-2008)    In section 6.3 do problems 1, 3, 15, 16, 18, 19.  Study for Final Exam.
