Welcome to Dr. Edie Gaythwaite’s
Faculty Portfolio Home Page
The Faculty Portfolio is a requirement for the tenure process at Valencia College.
The Valencia Teaching and Learning Academy support team, the Dean and Tenure Review Committee guides tenure
candidates through the tenure process to include professional development workshops, writing and implementation of an Individualized Learning Plan and the creation of the Faculty Portfolio.
The
purpose of the portfolio is to highlight the Educational and Professional Background of the candidate, to present the
Individualized Learning Plan (ILP) and then systematize the results of the Learning
Outcomes described in the ILP into the Faculty Portfolio.
The Individualized Learning Plan (ILP) “is the
tenure candidate’s professional development plan, which is written by the candidate, in collaboration
with the dean. The plan spells out what the faculty member wants to learn, achieve, or accomplish
during the pre-tenure process” (see Required Elements of a Valencia Faculty Portfolio). The ILP consists of a Professional Philosophy written by the candidate that provides the how and why of professional practice.
The three Learning Outcomes (LO) are statements first written as what the candidate should learn and be able to do to improve student learning; and then discussed in terms of the outcome of those statements. Each LO has supporting artifacts and the results are discussed using the following criterion:
1. |
Adequate Preparation: explanation of what the candidate did to learn, achieve or accomplish LO. |
2. |
Appropriate Methods: description of the methodology(ies) used to achieve or accomplish LO. |
3. |
Significant Results: provides supporting evidence (artifacts) of what was achieve, learned or accomplished by the candidate in relationship to the LO. |
4. |
Reflective Critique: candidate reflection of what was learned while completing the LO and how to improve future work. |
