Paolo Soleri*, architect and founder of Arcosanti*, identifies this process through which life evolves as "MCD."
"In nature, as an organism evolves, it increases in complexity, and it also becomes a more compact or miniature system" (Soleri, 1977).
In order to achieve or realize Duration (reproduction, endurance), organisms miniaturize and complexify. Soleri used this concept to develop "arcology," the integration of architecture and ecology. His goal is to create cities that model this Miniaturization, Complexity, Duration process. Soleri envisions cities as a necessary part of human evolution.
