Florida Beaches

Florida has a wide variety of beaches if you look at it from the sand composition, usage, and the type of shoreline it occupies with the sometimes rough Atlantic on one side of the state and the calm Gulf on the other.

Matanzas Inlet...South of St. Augustine and North of what is left of the Beach

Looking North toward Matanzas Inlet. Earlier dredging of this inlet depleted sand flow to the south, so erosion took place. The coastal road A1A is shown below.

The old A1A, being held up by rocks. It continues south until it ends on the beach.

The end of A1A..open to Off road Vehicles....the bypass around the Matanzas River, looking out at the small barrier island left between the ocean and river. Below is this barrier island found a few miles north of Marineland.

Houses built on stilts in response to what is left of the dunes to protect them from the sea. Photo taken from waters edge.

South of Crescent Beach is Marineland and then one of the few rocky beaches in Florida.
