Prerequisites | : |
There are no college-required prerequisites for this course. However, I STRONGLY urge you to take this self assessment before registering for ANY online course. (Be honest with yourself!) Tutors are available in the Business Computer Lab (room 2-304)
for those students who feel they lack basic computer skills.

Students with Disabilities | : | Students with disabilities who qualify for academic accommodations must provide a notification from the Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD) and discuss specific needs with the instructor, preferably during the first two weeks of class. Expected Student Conduct | : |
Valencia College is dedicated not only to the advancement
of knowledge and learning but is concerned with the development of
responsible personal and social conduct. By enrolling at Valencia College, a student assumes the responsibility for becoming
familiar with and abiding by the general rules of conduct.
The primary responsibility for managing the classroom environment
rests with the faculty. Students who engage in any prohibited or
unlawful acts that result in disruption of a class may be directed
by the faculty member to leave the class. Violation of any classroom
or Valencia's rules may lead to disciplinary action up to and
including expulsion from Valencia. Disciplinary action could include
being withdrawn from class, disciplinary warning, probation,
suspension, expulsion, or other appropriate and authorized actions.
You will find the Student Code of Conduct in the current Valencia
Student Handbook. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Computer Acceptable Use Policy | : | Use of computers in the Information Technology classrooms at Valencia is restricted to those activities designated by the instructor to enhance the class material. Any other use is strictly forbidden. Inappropriate use includes (but is not limited to):
Use of computers in the Business Students open lab (Bldg 2, Room 304)
is limited to those activities involved with preparing homework or
coursework in the IT or Business departments and is subject to the
same restrictions as listed above.

Grading Policy | : |
|
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Grading Scale | : |
|
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Attendance | : | Students are required to contribute WEEKLY to the WebCT Message Board.
For this class, a week runs from 12:01 Monday morning to 11:59 Sunday
night. Some weeks, I will ask pointed questions, or direct you in some
activity that requires a followup answer. Answers to these
questions/directions will fulfill the weekly "attendance" obligation.
If you go two weeks in a row without posting to the message board, I may send you a warning via Atlas email. Anyone who "misses" three weeks in a row (or two weeks in a row twice during the semester) may be removed from the class for non-attendance. Please see my Faculty Initiated Withdrawal policy for related information. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Grading Curve | : |
There is no curve. All extra credit points are extra. If you get 80
points in this class, you get a B—even if someone else in the class
gets 190 points. (S)he gets an A, and you still get the B. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Makeup Policy | : | Assignments CANNOT be made up. However, assignments can be
turned in late
(within one week of the original due date) for less than full credit.
See "Late Assignments Policy" below.
|
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Late Assignments Policy | : |
If you foresee trouble with a particular due date, and you alert me well in advance, we can try to make alternate arrangements. (Often, "alternate arrangements" will mean an alternate assignment.) If you experience difficulty uploading an assignment, email me. If I can confirm problems with Valencia's network, I'll let the due date slide a bit for the people who sent the email. Don't stop trying to upload, however. Many network problems
are repaired after 30 minutes or so. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Faculty-Initiated Withdrawal | : |
In addition to other remedies, I reserve the right to remove from the class any student who does not communicate with the class. Most weeks during the semester, I will pose a question on the message board under the topic, "This Week's Discussion." Think of this question as "roll call." If I do not receive a reply from you within one week, I will send you a notice of excessive absences. If another week goes by without an explicit answer to my question,
or if you fail to reply in time to a second roll call, I may remove
you from the class without further notice.
