Assignment 0: Steal This Page

This Web page constitutes an introduction to HTML. Use it as you see fit.

This is a very simple page that contains several useful HTML tags. So far, for example, I have used a level 1 heading, a horizontal rule, some centered text, and an indented paragraph. Elsewhere on this page, you will find other headings, graphics, hypertext links (including a mailto: link), bolded text, and different horizontal rules.

Lines wrap automatically in HTML, but if you want to break a line without creating a new paragraph, you will have to insert a line break,
like
this.

Some other tags you might want to include in your first Web page are graphics
left eye
and hypertext links.

We will look more closely at these tags in future lessons, but for now, just try to put them to use on your own page.

Assignment

  1. Copy this page to your computer. Name it assign00.htm
  2. Using any text editor, rewrite this page in any way you see fit. You could:
  3. Upload the revised page to WebCT.

Remember, I want you to use a text editor, such as Microsoft Notepad or vi or simpleText--NOT an HTML editor, such as HomeSite, and NOT a Web Publisher, such as DreamWeaver or FrontPage, and DEFINITELY NOT a Word Processor, such as MS Word.

Note: Don't be concerned if you cannot get an image to appear in your Web page. We will cover images and related files in a few weeks. After about Week 3 or 4, your images should be working smoothly.
