I grew up in a town called Maumee in the northwest corner of Ohio. After graduating from Ohio University with a B.S. in Mathematics and a minor in Computer Science, I lived in Austin, TX, for a few years and obtained my M.A. in Mathematics from the university of the same name. Another two years in the math Ph.D. program at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL, led to my involvement with the local Santa Fe Community College. I then moved a little down south to Orlando and began teaching at Valencia Community College. It was this exposure to the community college experience and my love for teaching which finalized my career as a professor at Valencia Community College.
Classic rock 'n' roll is my favorite music and I have been an avid Rush fan since the early 1980s. I enjoy going to rock concerts. I am into fandom of many types including Dark Shadows, Doctor Who, Star Trek, Star Wars, etc. My favorite hobby is comic book collecting. As of this entry, I have over 23,000 books in my collection. Several hundred of my comics are signed by the writers and/or artists that worked on them. I also have a couple of original pieces of comic book artwork and a few convention sketches. Another passion of mine is riding roller coasters and amusement parks in general. In my younger days, I worked at Cedar Point in Sandusky, OH, for six seasons. I have ridden over 200 distinct roller coasters since then, and I continue to add more to my roller coaster census list.
