Career Possibilities Profiler

The Career Possibilities Profiler is a set of two instruments that matches your personal interests and values with possible careers choices.  The profilers themselves are executable programs that you must download unto your local computer.  Each program consists of a set of interactive questions to answer.  Please follow the steps outlined below to begin using these programs.

Step One:        Please click here to download all necessary files.  When the file download window pops up, click the "Save" button and select your computer desktop as the place where you will "Save" the downloaded file.

Step Two:        Downloading times will vary depending on the connection speed.  After the download is complete, close the window and look on your desktop for the CIP_WIP.zip file.  You will need to unzip this file using any of the standard "zip" programs including the windows unzip wizard.  On most computers, you can usually get this process started by double clicking the file icon.      

Step Three:     After unzipping the file, double click the file netsetup.exe to start the installation process on your computer.  You will need to read the users agreement and click the Next button about eight times to complete this process.  The computer will then copy all necessary files onto your computer in the appropriate places.  Next, click the finish button and wait a few seconds.

Step Four:        You should find two new navy blue shortcut icons on your computer desktop at this point.  The names of these shortcuts are Interest Profiler and Work Importance Profiler.  Double click the desired shortcut icon to begin a program.  Follow the instructions on the screen once the program starts.  A description of each program is given below.

Step Five:         After you have completed the survey questions be sure to PRINT out a hard copy of the results for your personal records.

The Interest Profiler is a program that consists of about 180 questions that matches your personal interests with possible career choices.  This instrument is a self-assessment career exploration tool that can help you discover the type of work activities that you would like and find exciting.  You can use the results to explore the world of work though various career paths.

The Work Importance Profiler is a program with about 25 questions that matches your work values with possible career choices.  In particular, the instrument is a career exploration tool that allows you to focus on what is important to you in a job.  It helps to identify occupations that you might find satisfying, based on the similarity between your work values (such as achievement, autonomy, and conditions of work) and the characteristics of the occupations.
