Land Forms

USING THE WORLD WIDE WEB TO CREATE MULTIMEDIA PRESENTATIONS

The Web offers a huge variety of photographs that can help understand the geographical concepts being learned and to see what it looks like around the country and the world. You should download pictures to your folder and create a multimedia presentation (Microsoft Photoshop is an excellent free resource). Be sure to give credit to the Web sites where you download pictures.

ACTIVITY OUTLINE
Objective View photographs of the United States national parks to see examples of the landforms and bodies of water described in Chapter 2. Begin research with the Web sites below.
Task Visit Web sites with pictures of national parks in different regions of the United States. Then compile some of the photographs into multimedia presentations with textual descriptions of the landforms and bodies of water shown in the pictures.
Class Time 2-3 class periods

  • Read pages 32-36 and look at the diagram on pages 34-35. List the geographical features that can be found near your home town.
  • Visit the provided Web sites and look at pictures for at least ten United States national parklands. Choose sites from different parts of the country (i.e., Alaska, Hawaii, Pacific coast, Southwestern desert, Great Plains, Southeast, and Northeast). As you go through the pictures, look for examples of the landforms and bodies of water described on pages 32-36. Save pictures of some of the samples, making sure to note the URL and title of the Web site the picture came from and the photographer's name, if available.
  • Create multimedia presentations that showcase some of the landforms and bodies of water in the national parks. Your presentations should include pictures of at least ten landforms and bodies of water and text descriptions of each one. Be sure to include credits for the photographs, providing the URL, Web page title, and photographer's name (if known).
