Use the graphing features of the calculator to
determine the x-intercepts and the vertex of the quadratic functions:
f(x)=-1.5x2+7x-3
g(x)=0.4x2+2x-5
- Graph the function in an appropriate window.
- Find the x-intercepts:
- Press 2nd CALC
- Choose line 2 (Zero command)
- Input a left boundary, hit enter
- Input a right boundary, hit enter
- Hit enter a third time as a guess.
- Repeat for the other x-intercept.
You can also input the boundaries by scrolling left of the
intercept, hit enter, scrolling right of the intercept, hit
enter, scrolling near the intercept, hit enter.
- Find the vertex:
- Press 2nd CALC
- Choose the minimum or maximum
command, whichever is appropriate
- Scroll near the vertex. Then
scroll a few points left of the vertex and hit enter.
- Scroll a few points to the right of
the vertex and hit enter.
- Scroll near the vertex and hit enter
a third time.
