Littering the long path to professionalism lie the past relics of old ideas about the interpreting process and the role of interpreters.
Today, we must clear the mind of past practices. The profession of interpreting has been enlightened and established thanks to the tireless efforts of savvy deaf consumers, interpreters, RID, NAD, and the like.
This website invites you to relax and meditate on the important lessons of the masters. Begin to see with clarity. Learn to identify and use the interpreting process in a new and invigorating fashion. Become one with our Code of Ethics.
So What is This About?
There is clearly a need for both ASL and our process to be taken seriously by ourselves and our consumers, deaf and hearing. View some of the resources in the list on the right. Clicking on any one will take you to a document related to ASL and/or the interpreting process.
Everyone is welcome ~ deaf, hearing, interpreters, friends. Feel free to visit with us, to browse the list of resources, and to pass along what you find useful. If you are a working or aspiring interpreter in one of my classes, you may use the resources to enrich your class experience, to find information for an assignment or for your own edification.
Why participate? For inspiration and a resource we can all refer to when making the case for process-based interpreting. This is sorely needed in order to move away from the "interpreter is a telephone" model and toward full recognition of the interpreting process as a basis for systematic skill development and faithful rendering of the message according to our Code of Ethics.
