WebCT Basics (drogers)

How do I download & save files from WebCT?

1. First, find a place for your files

Create a folder on your computer for class files. I recommend the My Documents, the Windows folder found in the Start menu. Double-click on the item to open it.

Once the My Documents window is open, create a new folder by either selecting the Make a New Folder option (Win XP), selecting New from the Files menu in the top menu line, or right-clicking in the My Documents window and selecting New, then Folder from the drop down menu. Give the folder a simple name (like WLit).

As an online learner, you must remember where you put things on your computer. It is easy for files to become lost, and when they are lost, they are really lost!

2. Next, download files to your new folder

When you click on any downloadable file in WebCT a Dropbox window will open like the one here. Select the file by dotting the small selection window to the left, then clicking on the "Download" button.

A "File Download" window will open.

Select "Save."

Do not select "Open" unless you have a high-speed Internet connection. Even if you this may cause your computer to lock.

A "Save As" Window will open

When the "Save As" window opens, you can select the list button in the "Save in:"address box at the top to see more of the directories in your computer. Your "My Documents" folder should be near the top of the list.

If you have created a separate folder within "My Documents," you'll need to select that, too, in the main window, so you will be looking right into your folder.

Select the "Save" button in the lower right and the file will be copied to the location you have specified.
