The Rough Draft: Conclusion and Introduction

Back to Drafting 3

Once you have completed the Background Information and the Issues section, writing the conclusion should be simpler. The conclusion of an essay explains what you have learned from the whole gathering information, writing the essay experience. In its simplest form, the conclusion is a restatement of the main ideas you discussed. If that's all you do - - fine.

"When I first thought about the topic of _____, I was not excited. The information I received from these, though, led me to some new thoughts."

If the research experience really really changed you life - - great. If it was a waste of time - that's all right too.

The only real difference between the Introduction and the Conclusion of an essay is that one encourages the reader to read on, and the other wraps things up. In this first assignment, you may use the Introduction to mention the three tests you took, and if you are only going to focus on one or tow of them in the Body, why you are not using the third.

The Introduction and Conclusion are best written together - - and best written last. Since they summarize, it's best to have already written what you hope to summarize.

Thanks for taking the time to read this....good luck
