Tutorial for Writer's Resources CD that accompanies The Brief Holt Handbook

When your first load Writer's Resources, your computer may autorun the CD. You should select the "open folder" option.

If you select the "Play" option, you will hear the audio tracks of the CD in alphabetical order, I believe. Entertaining only to a cherished few....

If AutoRun does not begin, please CLICK HERE

The Open Folder reveals the Writer's Resources program icon (plus other stored files to keep things humming).

You may double-click on the program to start.

Writer's Resources opens with a picture of a cow (not like the deathcow below).

The opening screen includes credits. You can proceed to the Table of Contents by selecting the arrow on the right.

If AutoRun does not immediately open the file, you' can start it from Run in the Start Menu.

Click on the Run icon to open a small access window at the bottom of your screen.

If you know the drive letter of your CD-ROM or DVD drive, you can type in

D:\Writer's Resources

where D is the drive letter (usually D or E).

If you do not know the drive lletter, select Browse.

Windows normally opens your personal folder in the "Documents & Settings" folder. Select the small button to the right of the "Look in" menu item at the top of the window.

This will open a listing of the folders on your computer.

If you have inserted the CD in your drive, you should be able to find it listed near the top of the list. You'll be able to identify it by the name "Writer's Resources." The drive letter will be stated after the title.

Once you've selected the drive, you'll see the Writer's Resources program in the folder listing. Select it and then the Open button in the lower right.

This is how the Run window will look at you prepare to start the program.
