Higher Learning and ZenZen self-nature is much more universal than individual expression or individual desires. In Zen, self-nature is the background tranquility (emptiness or sunyata) of the cosmos. Self-nature, here, relates to human self-nature, not individual desires. In the Zen view, then, self-nature pervades all human life. It is the background force that exists when life, death, and individual experiences are stripped away from the self (or soul, for the more Western mind). |
