Do I have to purchase the course materials?

Yes. You must purchase the course materials from the Osceola Campus bookstore. The SAM access code provides access to the eBook, assignments, exams and trainings.

Can I use the SAM access code for multiple courses in the same semester?

SAM can be used for any course that uses SAM. However, you will only get access to one Ebook with the first purchase. You will have to purchase a separate Ebook access code for the other classes.

Are there system requirement for using the SAM website?

Yes, once you have created your SAM account and have successfully logged in, you will see system requirement information on the SAM welcome screen.

How do I join my class section in SAM?

Click on Sections and locate your class section using the following information: CRN, term and instructor.

I got this error when I tried opening my SAM file "'not supported file type'?

If you are getting that error it means that you do not have Office 2013 installed on the computer you are using. Projects files can only be opened in their respective program.

Do I need to have Office 2013?

Yes, you will need to have access to Office 2013 for the projects.

Where can I purchase Office 2013?

Can I still use Office 2010 or Office 2007?

You can use both at your own risk. There are some differences between the programs. The software referenced in the course is Office 2013.

I have a MAC; can I still complete the assignments?

If you are using a MAC computer and are using MAC Office 2011 you may not be able to fully complete the lab projects. I recommend starting the project on the MAC and complete it using Office 2013 for Windows in the lab or library. Note MAC Office does not have Access or a database type program. You will need access to Office 2013 to complete the Access labs.

Are the training exercises required?

Training exercises are additional resources designed to help you. It is recommended that you attempt the training exercise before taking the exam but it is not required.

What does “Always Available” mean?

Exams will be in an "Always Available" status. However; If the exam is not completed by the assignment schedule due date, 10 (ten) points will be deducted for each day it’s late.

Why aren’t there due dates in SAM?

Assignments and exams will be in an “Always available” status. Please check your course assignment schedule in blackboard for due dates.

What if I missed the scheduled due date?

Missing the scheduled assignment schedule date will result in ten (10) points being deducted for each day it’s late.

How do I access the case/lab projects?

Log in to SAM. Click on SAM Assignments and click on the desired project.  Download the instruction file as well as the start files. Help sheets can be found in Blackboard under SAM Navigation.

Where do I submit the projects?

Once you have completed the assignment, go back to SAM. Click on the SAM assignments and the lab project. Click Browse to locate your file and click submit.  FYI – the filenames must match. Help sheets can be found in Blackboard under SAM Navigation.

How can I view my results or reports?

How do I access the eBook in SAM?

Log in to SAM. Click on SAM assignments. Change the 'assignment type' to Reading - then click on search. All of your eBook chapters will be displayed. Make sure your pop up blocker is disabled for SAM. Help sheets can be found in Blackboard under SAM Navigation.

Do I have to complete the tutorial in the eBook?

The tutorial exercise is your lesson. It is HIGHLY recommended that you complete the chapter/tutorial lesson before attempting the lab.

Do I need to download additional files for the tutorials?

Yes, some of the tutorials require you to have a start file to begin the exercise. The last page in your eBook provides the necessary information. You can access the student data files by going to http://cengagebrain.com , type  from the back of the ebook and click “Access Now”

What assignments are submitted in Blackboard?

Response to weekly discussion topics are submitted in Blackboard. All other assignments and exams are in SAM.

What assignments are submitted in SAM?

All chapter exams and Microsoft Office 2013 projects/exams will be accessed and submitted in SAM. Help sheets can be found in Blackboard under SAM Navigation.

Can I use my SAM account from a previous term?

Unfortunately not this Fall2013 term. If you have a SAM2010 account you need to contact your instructor. All students enrolled in CGS2100 and CGS106 this term will be using SAM2013.

Can I use a textbook from a previous term?
