Colin Archibald, has served as a faculty member at Valencia College since 1998, and as an adjunct professor at University of Central Florida since 2011. 

He holds a Bachelors degree in Computer Science from Acadia University (BCS '82), an MSc in Computer Science from the University of British Columbia (MSc '84), and a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Ottawa (PhD '95). 

For 10 years he was a Research Officer for the National Research Council of Canada.  He has published two books and more than 30 papers in the areas of artificial intelligence, robotics, and computational vision.  In industry, he developed a C++ program "CardScan" which is still a popular commercial software product. 

Since 2005 he has served as the statewide discipline coordinator in Computer Science for Florida's Statewide Course Numbering System (SCNS). 

In 2000-2003 he was the Principal Investigator for an NSF ATE grant (National Science Foundation - Advanced Technology Education) "Partnerships to Enhance Student Success in IT." 

He was the Co-Principal Investigator for an NSF grant "Software Development Educational Pathways"  in partnership with UCF, Seminole State College, Brevard CC, and Lake Sumter CC.  This grant created the BAS Software Development at UCF (Bachelor of Applied Science).  2010-2013

He is a member of the ACM, and holds several industry certifications including:  Sun Certified Java Associate, Programmer and Developer;  CompTIA Linux+; Microsoft MTA Software Development Fundamentals, MTA Windows Development Fundamentals. 

He was awarded the NISOD award for teaching excellence in 2003, and 2011; the Collegis/Sungard Endowed Chair for Teaching in Computer Science for five years:  2007-2011. 

Dr. Archibald has been producing hands-on video lectures for computer programming classes since 2004.  These "lecture on demand" videos available on the web, contain explanations, demonstrations, and programming exercises, and are made available to anyone who has an interest in computer programming.
