Learning Outcome 2 Overall Reflection

Initially I was disappointed at my results because I was for the majority not able to prove there was a statistically significant difference in the group that used my active learning note compared to the group that did not use active learning notes.  I was really hoping to show that my notes improved learning in factoring compared to not having them.  After reviewing the results again I was able to see the positive side.  The results show that using my notes is equal to not using my notes so my notes did not have a negative impact on learning.  So the positive aspects are the students can use my notes and pay about $15.00 versus paying about $150.00 for the textbook and the feedback I received from the survey showed the students enjoyed learning with the notes.  I was also able to learn much about brain research, learning styles, students’ challenges with mathematics, classroom assessment techniques, inclusion and diversity, and other competencies through this Action Research Project.  I was also able to create meaningful research on my active learning notes that I will present to other faculty in hopes of having more instructors and students using my active learning notes for MAT0024C Beginning Algebra.  Overall I am very happy I was given the opportunity to focus on this project during my tenure process.  I was able to learn so much and have an impact on students’ learning and help them be successful in mathematics.
